HEMP GROWING ADVICE

CHOOSE THE RIGHT VARIETY

Before you begin, it is important to choose the right variety of hemp for your needs – some are better suited to fibre production, others to grains or flowers rich in specific compounds. You also need to think about the climate and conditions in your area.

PREPARE THE SOIL

Thoroughly loosened soil and careful preparation of the seedbed are essential to ensure the best possible germination and good root exploration, allowing the crop to develop properly. It is important to carry out seedbed preparation under the best possible conditions to limit germination risks.

SOW AT THE RIGHT TIME

Sowing should be carried out during a period when conditions are favourable, particularly in terms of temperature and humidity. Leave enough space between the seeds to allow the plants to develop properly.

MONITOR REGULARLY

Once the seeds have germinated, little maintenance is generally required. Hemp grows quickly and naturally limits competition from weeds. However, it is advisable to monitor the plants’ growth and watch for any signs of disease or pests.

WATER APPROPRIATELY

Even though hemp is a relatively hardy plant, enough water at the right time can make all the difference, especially in the early stages of growth. Avoid overwatering, as this can damage the plant.

HARVEST BASED ON YOUR GOALS

The timing of the harvest depends on what you want to produce: fibres, grains or flowers. It is important to follow the plant’s growth and harvest at the right time to ensure the quality of the crop.

COMPLY WITH REGULATIONS

Hemp growing is governed by specific laws, which vary from country to country. Find out about the rules that apply before you begin, particularly in terms of authorisations and authorised varieties.
